Paella Can Make You Drool

By DH Wall - Posted on March 20, 2008 at 10:05 pm

I saw this picture and immediately started to salivate like Pavlov's dogs drooling at the sound of a dinner bell.

I had never heard of paella until being introduced to it near Malaga in Andalucia during my first trip to Spain. Now paella is a requirement on every trip because getting good paella in the United States is not easy.

When the paella comes in a big pan like this, right off the stove, it is going to be good. Each chef makes paella slightly different, but the result is usually the same. All paella is good!

With a pitcher of sangria on the side, this is the perfect meal.

Flamenco dancing is the folk dance originating in the Andalusia region of Spain. Just the mention of the word invokes thoughts of Seville, Spain. Flamenco is both a style of music and a form of dance.

This video shows a flamenco dancing performance in Seville, Spain.

Spotlight: The Seville Spain Tapas Scene in 8 Photos

By DH Wall - Posted on September 17, 2007 at 9:02 pm

Flickr, a website where users can create photo galleries, is a great place to share your Spain vacation photos.

One user, John Picken, has posted his excellent collection of Seville (Sevilla) photos. The photo set shows many engaging photo angles of the things tourists are likely to see in Seville. I've selected 8 that exemplify the Seville tapas experience.

Tapas are small portions of food served at small tapas bars. The pictures show typical tapas bars in Seville and some common tapas foods. Found throughout Seville and other parts of Spain, tapas bars are about socializing more than eating. It's not uncommon for standing-height tables with or without bar stools to be the only place to eat. Everyone is happy to stand around and chat.

Hidden in Seville

Gold. Lot's of it. The tomb of Christopher Columbus is here too.

Can you guess where I am?

Tilt your head sideways. I'm inside the famous cathedral in Seville, the world's largest church.

Hidden in the nooks and crannies of the church are relics and priceless artworks. Gold is everywhere.

From Ronda to Seville - Scenes from a Bus

By DH Wall - Posted on June 22, 2007 at 10:36 pm

Forget trains! Sometimes the best way to get from one tourist destination to another is by bus.

But what can you see in between the 2 destinations?

Sometimes the sites include small villages and glimpses at local farms, shops and restaurants. This was the case when we took the bus from Ronda, Spain to Seville (Sevilla).

We wound up on a bus that made a few stops in villages along the way. Yes, we might have found a quicker way, but then again, we would have missed the chance to glimpse at a part of the Spain we would not have seen otherwise.
