Reviews of Don Miguel Restuarant in Ronda Spain - Dinner with a view

By DH Wall - Posted on January 20, 2010 at 10:39 pm

I've passed by Don Miguel Hotel and Restaurant many, many times during visits to Ronda, Spain but have never had the good fortune to eat there.  The restuarant is at the edge of the cliff right next to Puente Nueva "The New Bridge."  If you spend a few days in Ronda, you'll likely cross the bridge several times going from the old town to the new.

I admit it, I've been one of those tourists that said "hey, there's a restaurant hanging over the side of the cliff."   If you go to Ronda, Spain, I'm sure you will too.  You can see the Don Miguel Hotel and Restaurant's outdoor dining areas on the edge of the gorge in the pictures.

Photo: Thickest steak I've ever had. Thanks Ronda, Spain.

steak in Ronda, Spain restaurant

This had to be one of the thickest, juiciest, best steaks I've ever it.  The chef brought out the uncooked piece of meat for approval.  After an appetizer and a little bit of waiting, this wonderous creation arrived.

The location and restaurant?  It's a secret.  I can tell you that the restaurant was in Ronda, Spain.  In the heat of steak passion, I forgot the name of the restaurant.  The restaurant is on the outskirts of town and down a dirt road.  I think it was somewhere in the vicinity of the marker on the map.

Ronda roman road

This old cobblestone-looking road in Ronda, Spain has been traveled for hundreds of years.  The road is at the base of the cliffs and provides a spectacular view of the famous bridge and the cliffs of Ronda.  To get to this road, take a walk from the center of town to the old city area.  Continue on the main road and gradually down the hill.  An old church will be on the left.  This road is the first one on the right - outside of the walls of the old city area of Ronda.

Walk a little ways down the cobblestone road like travelers of the past and behold this spectacular view of the Ronda bridge and surrounding cliffs.

Driving on Andalucia Highway A-372

By DH Wall - Posted on September 23, 2008 at 8:47 pm

A-372 is one of the main roads going from Ronda to Arcos de le Frontera.  This roadway, like so many others in Spain, has so much scenery it is hard not to stop every 5 minutes to soak in the views.

View of Andalucia hills

The landscape in this part of southern Spain is varied.  Expect to see everything from vast plains to tall mountains during the 1 hour 30 minute drive from Ronda to Arcos de la Frontera.

Life goes at a slow pace in this stretch of Andalucia roadway. Sleepy little farm houses dot the A-372 countryside. Passing a tractor or two is to be expected.

The only thing fast around here is a Mercedes rapidly approaching in the rear-view mirror.

Ronda bridge

Looking through a window can be a good way to "frame" a photo.  This technique can be used with any kind of opening and the Ronda bridge provides an interesting one.

From this angle, I'm looking through the old bridge in Ronda, Spain, in Southern Spain.  in the distance, I see a white building, a home of Ronda residents.  The building actually straddles a cliff and is part of a seemingly endless complex of white buildings.

The Football Experience: Watching the Spain-Italy Euro2008 Football Game

By DH Wall - Posted on June 26, 2008 at 2:12 pm

My face painted the Spain flag stripes - red, yellow, red - I stood in a Ronda, Spain bar last Sunday night. It was the big game and my first time watching a big game in a Spanish bar. I stood as a Spain traveler hundreds of miles from home watching amongst the locals, like the locals.

Spain was going against Italy in the quarter-finals of Euro 2008 - one of the biggest tournaments in the sport.

The Spain-Italy game played on the big screen as I stood amongst the chanting, singing, jumping and cheering locals, wishing my spoken Spanish was a little better.

I've experienced nothing like it.

From Ronda to Seville - Scenes from a Bus

By DH Wall - Posted on June 22, 2007 at 10:36 pm

Forget trains! Sometimes the best way to get from one tourist destination to another is by bus.

But what can you see in between the 2 destinations?

Sometimes the sites include small villages and glimpses at local farms, shops and restaurants. This was the case when we took the bus from Ronda, Spain to Seville (Sevilla).

We wound up on a bus that made a few stops in villages along the way. Yes, we might have found a quicker way, but then again, we would have missed the chance to glimpse at a part of the Spain we would not have seen otherwise.

At a shop by the bus stop. What's everybody doing standing around?
