Reviews of Don Miguel Restuarant in Ronda Spain - Dinner with a view

By DH Wall - Posted on January 20, 2010 at 10:39 pm

I've passed by Don Miguel Hotel and Restaurant many, many times during visits to Ronda, Spain but have never had the good fortune to eat there.  The restuarant is at the edge of the cliff right next to Puente Nueva "The New Bridge."  If you spend a few days in Ronda, you'll likely cross the bridge several times going from the old town to the new.

I admit it, I've been one of those tourists that said "hey, there's a restaurant hanging over the side of the cliff."   If you go to Ronda, Spain, I'm sure you will too.  You can see the Don Miguel Hotel and Restaurant's outdoor dining areas on the edge of the gorge in the pictures.

A tribute to Churros con Chocolate, the best Spain dessert ever!

By DH Wall - Posted on January 12, 2010 at 6:00 am

Take a fried-dough churro and dip it in a cup melted chocolate:  churros con chocolate.

A dessert, a breakfast, a snack.  Churros con chocolate is versatile, delicious and a popular treat originating in Spain. I like having a meal of a few tapas and then finishing it off with churros con chocolate.

If you've yet to try churros with chocolate, this is the one indulgence you absolutely must make when visiting Spain.

These pictures of churros con chocolate make me salivate as they should you.

Finally, Churros con Chocolate

Spain Dining in the U.S. at Barcelona Restaurant in Connecticut, Review of West Hartford Location

By DH Wall - Posted on June 30, 2009 at 6:17 pm

No matter how much I wish I was in Spain right now, I am stuck in the United States....thinking about good times and good authentic tapas and pealla.

Luckily for me and anyone located in the Northeast United States, the centrally located state of Connecticut is home to 6 Barcelona Wine Bar & Restaurants.  Barcelona Wine Bar & Restaurant is a Spanish restaurant with a focus on tapas, a handful of entrees and a long list of expensive wine.

The 6 locations are Greenwich, Stamford, Fairfield, South Norwalk, New Haven and West Hartford.

Before chosing one, I read several reviews.  Each location is different - different atmostphere, different menu, different chef, different waitstaff.  Some restaurants are smaller, some are bigger.  Some waitstaff can be new and unskilled, some can be excellent and polished.

Save money on Spain travel by buying food at farmers markets

By DH Wall - Posted on February 25, 2009 at 2:37 pm

One way to save money on travel in Spain is by reducing the amount of meals at restaurants.  Dining out for every meal adds up fast. So what is the best other way to eat on the cheap? The best alternative to dining out at a restaurant is to do-it-yourself.  How?  By making your own meals from food bought at local farm stands and farmer's markets in Spain.

Photo: Thickest steak I've ever had. Thanks Ronda, Spain.

steak in Ronda, Spain restaurant

This had to be one of the thickest, juiciest, best steaks I've ever it.  The chef brought out the uncooked piece of meat for approval.  After an appetizer and a little bit of waiting, this wonderous creation arrived.

The location and restaurant?  It's a secret.  I can tell you that the restaurant was in Ronda, Spain.  In the heat of steak passion, I forgot the name of the restaurant.  The restaurant is on the outskirts of town and down a dirt road.  I think it was somewhere in the vicinity of the marker on the map.

Do you ever dream about jamon serrano?

By DH Wall - Posted on October 13, 2008 at 8:38 pm

I do.

While I could satisfy my cravings with jamon served at Spain-style tapas bars in the Unites States, I must abstain. While there are many variations of Spanish jamon, there's only one way to eat jamon - in the evening in a Spain tapas bar. Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, Granada, Seville: all great places to eat jamon.  Anywhere in Spain is a great place to eat jamon.

Driving from Seville to Ronda? Granada to the Costa del Sol? Keep a look out. Jamon can also be found at those rustic roadside restaurants who serve jamon as if mandated by law.

If you’re planning your first trip to Madrid, you’ve probably done some research on the variety of flavorful tapas and traditional dishes served at bars and restaurants throughout the city. Vegetarian Tapas to Enjoy on a Trip to Madrid

At first glance, vegetarians traveling in Madrid may be concerned about what appears to be a very meat-centric cuisine. Pork, chicken and wild fowl, lamb, beef and other meats do feature predominately in many traditional Madrid dishes. Yet there are plenty of opportunities for vegetarians and health conscious travelers to enjoy delicious and flavorful plant-based foods, too.

One of the best strategies for enjoying vegetarian cuisine in Madrid is to take advantage of vegetarian tapas. The majority of tapas in Madrid do feature meat, but there are plenty of delicious vegetarian tapas to choose from, as well.
