Holiday homes accommodations are very popular worldwide. Spain is a very touristic country due to its climate and coasts, and staying in a villa or apartment rental rather than a hotel is an experience in itself. It is likely to be much more economical, personal and relaxed than a hotel set in the hustle and bustle of the busy town.

Nowadays, many people from England and other European countries have found this as an economical way to stay in Spain for three weeks and not pay a fortune in hotels. With holiday homes accommodations, you have the opportunity to choose for a special kind of house, depending of the type of trip you are going to do. So if you are thinking on a holiday in the beach, south facing beach apartments are waiting for you. A luxury villa with swimming pool and garden is another option for those who prefer a little luxury instead a five star hotel. Definitely holiday lettings in Spain are an excellent choice for saving money while getting a nice house.

The good thing with holiday rental homes, is that there exists many different types of houses, and there´s always one that you like and you´ve been dreaming with. It is another way to live in Spain and not feel like a tourist.

Want to save money on a trip to Spain and feel good at the same time? Look for a fruit stand and stock up on fresh fruit. Simple advice, yes, but you'll thank me for it.
You'll eat less at restaurants, have less desire for fast-food restaurants (McYuck), and you'll keep from being hungry throughout the day. All you need is some fruta.
Pictured is a small fruit stand in Malaga, Spain. Fruit stands throughout Spain will usually have a wide range of fruits on hand: apples, oranges, kiwis, grapes, bananas, peaches, strawberries, rasberries, avacodos, pears, plums, apricots, melons, lemons, limes, olives and tomatos.

Long-layovers. So necessary but so despised.
I've had so many delays on outbound flights that I now aim for a layover of 2 to 3 hours between flights. It may be a little excessive, but I am usually assured to make the next leg of the flight instead of waiting several more hours -or overnight- for an alternative flight which is a lot less fun.
Sure, I end up sitting around for a while. With part of the Madrid Barajas Airport being newly added in 2006, waiting around is not so bad.
What do you do with 3 hours to kill at Madrid Barajas Airport?
Let's look at ways to plan your time in this Madrid Airport Survival Guide.
Flying from the US to Malaga, I had to do a transfer in Madrid and figure out what to do with myself during long layovers both going to Spain and leaving.

The city of Malaga, Spain is full of great photo opportunities, from the historic to the modern. One often overlooked photo opportunity takes the form of the apartment buildings where residents live.
Look at the buildings - a mix of modern and old. Unlike the peublos blancos (white villages) in the region north of Malaga, Malaga is much more developed. Cranes dot the skyline. The buildings give a feel for the way of life in Malaga.
Up close pictures of these types of Malaga buildings reveals a variety of architecture styles. Here's a very small sampling:

The best? Maybe.
Really fresh? Definately. Few restaurants are fresher.
Romerijo specializes in fresh fish and have been perfecting the art since opening in 1952. Romerijo has several locations in the immediate vicinity, in El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain and another in Sevilla, Spain.
El Puerto de Santa Maria is a cozy, untouristy, off-the-beaten-path yet historic town that's a quick 10 minute drive from the even more historic city of Cadiz. Based on a local recommendation, the Romerijo restaurant I visited is the one situating itself on the corner of Calle Ribera Del Marisco, one of the roads parallel to the river. The Romerijo company has other restaurants next door - literally cornering the market.

Sometimes the most interesting travel photo is right in front of you.
If you are in a taxi, bus or someone else is driving, taking pictures is a good way to pass the time while it can open the doors to interesting photo opportunities. Sometimes you'll be capturing great Spain scenery, othertimes, simple pictures of daily Spanish life are revealed.
Here's a rusty old Land Rover water truck perfectly poised in front of the landscape on A-357 somewhere between Malaga and Ronda, Spain.

So I needed a bed for 1 night in Malaga. At 1 night, I couldn't rent an apartment or villa, my preferred accommodation style for longer durations. Luckily, I found a cheap bargain in Malaga's Don Curro Hotel, which I will review here.
The hotel room I was given in Don Curro Hotel was simple and clean, modern but basic. I may have had one of the renovated rooms as construction work was being done in other parts of the building. The bathroom was roomy and clean. Other places I've stayed in Europe have had small, stand-up shower stalls. The room I had in Don Curro Hotel has a full-size bathtub and shower. The room also had a free in-room safe for storing passports and other valuables - though travelers, as common practice, should always try to leave the valuables like jewelry locked up at home.
